We are bringing a wave of change to Southeast West Haven. Our goal is to assist the City and help to enhance the quality of life in our neighborhood. We live here, and we intend to work in partnership with the City to better the quality of life here.
We have worked with the City to discuss the impact this project has on our neighborhood, both positive and negative. We have done our best to help expedite the enhanced version of this project. For anyone interested, we have the plans available upon request.
We are working to assist the City to increase traffic and pedestrian safety measures along Beach Street. Vehicular accidents and constant excessive speeding puts beach goers and neighborhood pedestrians at risk. We will advocate for a traffic engineering study as requested by city officials. We also hope to get cameras installed from West Walk to the Bird Sanctuary.
We advocated to extend the new bike and pedestrian paths created by the road raise down the entirety of Beach Street.
Through our Clear Blue Clean Green Initiative, we hope to put in place measures to decrease litter on the roadway, beach, and in the water.
Former State Representative and current Mayor Dorinda Borer was successful in obtaining grant funding to protect the function and further the aesthetic enhancement of the two pump stations along Beach Street. We are working with the City to assist in any way we can be helpful.
We sponsor monthly hands-on cleanups throughout the neighborhood.
In cooperation with Public Works, we want to reduce litter from tourists and resident beach goers.
We work with representatives from Save the Sound to track trash pickup for their regional annual program.
We would love to work with the West Haven schools to create an environmental education program.
We are in the exploratory phase, and hope for more feedback from the City Council and the Administration regarding our vision. In the meantime, we have set up a website for our neighborhood and the greater West Haven community to submit what they would like to see in Morse Park.
Please see our exploratory website, and provide your submission!
Our liaison, Georgianna Jette, has worked with Audubon from the beginning to foster the creation and designation of the Bird Sanctuary. Audubon recently was approved for a grant for an additional educational hub and, given their history with the Sandy Point Bird Sancturary, they chose West Haven as the general site. We would love for our neighborhood to be the location and we are willing to provide the support.
We are working with City Council to have an ordinance passed that limits waterfowl hunting at the Sanctuary. This is similar to ordinances passed at many locations along the coast in Connecticut.
Our volunteers have maintained the landscaping and gardens in and around the Sanctuary, and have planted new gardens as well.
Sandy Point is both a bird sanctuary and a public beach. We organize several cleanups throughout the year to polish this gem and take personal responsibility for our coastline.
We treasure our natural landscape, and seek to further enhance our neighborhood. Our passionate group formally organizes and maintains community gardens amongst other beautification projects.
From our annual Block Party to holiday events throughout the year, we love to celebrate our little slice of heaven. Check our calendar for upcoming fun!
We maintain an open dialogue with the talented and appreciated West Haven Police Department and foster our Neighborhood Watch Program.
We have several committees related to our initiatives. Contact us to find out how to sign up today! We could use your talents!
